To my Dragonfly Girls…

It doesn’t interest me how popular you are in school, or how many followers you have on social media. That does not define you. I want to know how you inspire, how you lead and how you light the way for others.

It doesn’t interest me how smart you are or what results you get on tests. That does not define you.  I’m interested in your emotional intelligence, your self-awareness, your integrity and the goals you have to make your spirit shine.

It doesn’t interest me how rich your parents are or how big your house is. That does not define you. I want to see how rich your truth is, how rich your relationships are and how rich your life experiences are.

I don’t care about how pretty your face is, the shape of your body or what brands of clothes you wear. In fact I don’t care about your exterior self at all – I care about how beautiful your soul is. Your heart, your desires, your deep desires, what lights you up, your truth, your gratitude, your perspective on the important things in life. Your willingness to dance to the beat of your own drum. I care about your ability to lift up others with encouragement, kindness and empathy.

I want to know what helps you get up again and again on those dark days. I want to know how you sit with pain, how you cope with fear and how you push through challenge. I care about that silent voice that speaks to you all day. I want to help you find joy in the moments of being alone with yourself.

It doesn’t interest me how you came to be here today. I am only interested in how willing you are to show up for yourself. How willing you are to sit in your vulnerability. To stand strong in self-awareness, even when it feels uncomfortable to share your honest truth.

I don’t care about who you’ve been in the past – I care about right now.

Chose right now who you are going to be today. Will you shrink with fear or worry what others will think or will you step up, show up and bring your best self.

Show up for you – for your growth and your spirit. Show up for your sisters in this room today because your strength, your courage, your vulnerability and your willingness to grow will inspire others to do the same and that’s what this world needs.
